From Issue 99 of Amplify for Advisors

Your clients are asking AI about money. Ask them to bring it to you.

Issue 99 ends with one move. Invite clients to send you what AI tells them before they act on it. Below, Watt turns that idea into a client email, a LinkedIn post and a one-page handout, in one pass.

Before you act on an AI money answerA general answer can't see your taxes, your other accounts or your plans.

Hi there,

If you've asked ChatGPT or another AI tool about your money, you're in good company. A 2026 Betterment Advisor Solutions survey found that 75% of investors who work with an advisor use AI for money questions at least sometimes. It's a good way to learn the basics.

Say you just inherited some money and asked an AI what to do with it. The answer you get is written for the average person. It can't see your taxes, your other accounts or your plans for the next few years, and those details often change what makes sense.

Before you act on an AI answer, forward it to me. I'll check it against your plan. If it touches taxes or legal questions, we'll bring it to your CPA or attorney.

One more thing to keep in mind. Leave account numbers and your Social Security number out of AI tools. In a 2026 NerdWallet survey, 77% of people who asked a chatbot about money shared personal information with it. You can ask a good question without any of that.

Ask the AI to learn, then send me the answer before you move any money.

Lots of my clients now ask AI tools about their money, and that's a fine way to learn. One habit is worth adding before you type.

NerdWallet found in 2026 that 77% of people who used a chatbot for money questions shared personal information with it.

You can get a useful answer without any of that. Leave out your account numbers, your Social Security number and your login details. Round your numbers and describe your situation in general terms. Something like "I'm 58, married, and have a 401(k) and some savings" gives the tool plenty to work with.

Then treat the answer as a starting point. It's written for the average person, and it can't see your taxes, your other accounts or your plans. If you're a client, send it to me and I'll check it against your plan before you act.

Keep private numbers out of the chat, and check the answer before you move any money.
